Peace and quiet in the French countryside

Welcome to our Website

We've put this Website together to let friends and family know how we are progressing with our new life in France.

We bought Le Grand Ruisseau (the large Brook) eight years ago with a view to eventually making it our home. In March 2009 this became reality as we left the UK to make France our permanent home. This for us is a complete 'Lifestyle' change, as we intend to live as self sustainably as possible. Living the 'Good Life' so to speak.

During my childhood I lived in a country village, most of my free time and school holidays were spent with my friends, most of whose fathers were farmers. So time spent working /playing on the Land and around the Farm was the norm. This new life takes me back to my roots. I now get the chance to get earth under my finger nails (and everywhere else according to Susan), the Sun on my face and grow what we like to eat (plus many things never tried before). Susan (a Towney) has taken to this way of living enthusiastically and with the exception of "aren't the insects bigger here !?" is forever into new areas, Preserves, Chutneys, Bread, Yogurt and soft cheeses being a small example.

It is our intention to maintain contact with as many family and friends as possible. Please feel free to email us any comments on the site, or for a general 'chat'. We would welcome you to visit us here in France, our prices are reasonable, normally a couple of packets of Tetley Tea Bags or some other unobtainable 'essential', we can't live without !

The pages in this site will give you an insight about our home, the use we are putting the land to and the surrounding areas. I hope you enjoy it.

Le Grand Ruisseau is a 160 year old, fully restored 'Longue' (long) farmhouse sitting in eight acres of grounds, with a lake to a third of an acre. It's a comfortable home, relaxing and in harmony with the natural surrounds.

Situated in the Loire Valley know as the 'Garden of France'. You are geographically in the centre of France's greatest living historical area, no more that 60 minutes drive from ALL the great French Chateaux.
