Peace and quiet in the French countryside

Le Grand Ruisseau (the large Brook) is a 160 year old traditional 'Longue' (long) Farmhouse, positioned almost centrally within 3.5 hectares (8 acres) of land. It's situated just outside the village of Disse sous Le Lude, about 10 minute walk. The local Chateaux town of Le Lude is a ten minute drive in the opposite direction. As the village only has a small Shop/Bar/Restaurant most of our needs are met in the town.

The house was restored about 16 years ago by the previous French owners. We purchased the property eight years ago. Since then we have remodelled the kitchen (knocked some walls down) and fitted an Oak kitchen which I'm reminded has yet to be completed, hopefully during 2010. Originally over the lounge was a very dramatic vaulted roof reaching some 30 foot from floor to apex. However this was impossible to heat during the Autumn/Winter months so we had installed a floor/ceiling. This gave us, not only a more manageable living area, but an additional Master bedroom. At the same time, upstairs, we installed a new front window and five velux windows to the rear. Also walls were moved/repositioned to give us three bedrooms and two potential ensuite/bathrooms. We have four double bedrooms in all, there were five, but I've converted one of the ground floor bedrooms into a Study.

It's fair to say that parts of the house are still a 'project' which I'm sure will get completed in due course!

The property comprises:

Lounge

A large lounge, couple of four seater settee's. Large fire place, with wood burner. French doors leading to Patio area, over looking the Lake. Picture taken Christmas 2009.

Staires to the first floor are at the back of the room.

Kitchen

25 sq. metres large with fitted Oak kitchen, cleaver positioning means you don't see the rear wall which just needs some more units fitting to complete this room.

Large 'farmhouse' table to seat eight people.

Bathroom

As originally fitted by the previous owners Twin sinks with very large mirror, Bath, Bidet and Toilet.

This room is due a full refurbishment to include Walk in Shower, Bath, Cupbards and location for the Washing machine (these are never fitted in a French kitchen!!) and fully retiled. Another for the list.

Bedrooms

There are three double bedrooms upstairs and one double room downstairs, next to the bathroom. 18 foot vaulted ceilings and original oak beams are the main theme of the upstairs bedrooms. Generally we have furnished the rooms with Old Pine furniture. There are two smaller rooms we created upstairs which in time will become shower/bathrooms. Another project! There is still some electrical work (additional sockets etc) to be installed which is preventing me laying the Oak flooring (all stacked in the Garage), yet another project.

Stables

We put this building to good use, the right hand side for storing garden/patio furniture, tools and Fishing tackle etc.

The left side is for our wood logs, to keep us warm during the colder months. As you can see from the pictures below there's lots of work involved in wood burning. My sister Lynda, helping out cutting some of the logs for us.

There is also a loft area which is not used at the moment due to needing the back roof replacing, yes yet another project.
