We are part of the Pays du Loire region in the West of France in the department of Sarthe.
The property is ten minutes walk from
the centre of the village of Disse sous Le Lude. Until recently
(February '08) there was no shop or Bar, only a village hall and a 'Pain
Depot' (bread deposit). We now have a brand new
Shop/Bar/Tabbac/Restaurant built and owned by the local community. Food
is good 'country food' and reasonably priced.
The
Chateau town of Le Lude is a
ten minute car ride. Several good restaurants (one Michelin stared) here
from which to choose. Two supermarkets, Post office, lots of smaller
shops, bars and the Open-air market which visits on a Thursday. The Chateau it's self, although not the biggest,
is one of the best for contents of original furniture and fittings from
the 16-1700's. The gardens are also well worth a visit, situated along
the banks of the river Le Loir.
Over the bridge from the Chateau, going out of town you will find the Camping site. There is a municipal swimming pool with Inside and Outdoor pools. Also tennis, cycle, canoe hire.
Places of interest:
The lovely old Chateau town of Saumur with its white stone buildings, Equestrian and Wine centres is a 30 minute drive to the South.
The medieval city of Angers (a favourite place of ours) with its imposing castle containing the 'Apocalypse' tapestry and wooden framed buildings, is a 40 minute drive Southwest.
Le Mans city and motor racing circuit is 40 minutes, North.
Tours city, is well worth a visit particularly the 'Old Town' area, is 40 minutes to the East.
Le Grand Ruisseau is within easy reach of all the main Chateaux of the Loire valley. Namely Usse (copied for Sleeping Beauty's castle in Disney), Chenonceaux (the most visited in France), Amboise (good cafe at the 'hand made' chocolate shop in the town) and Fontevraud Abbaye, burial place of Richard the Lion Heart.
Although far from the Seaside outdoor activities centred around water abound in the area, which is surrounded by 'swimming lakes' all of which incorporate picnic areas, BBQ's, wooded walks and water equipment hire.
There are two National parks within 12 km, one the Berce forest is one of the largest Oak forests in France (13,000 acre's), with Oaks 240-250 years old.
Two very good Zoo's can be found in the area, one 20 minutes drive away in Le Fleche, the other 40 minutes South in Doue la Fontaine.
